What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday: My Sewing Machine, A Furoshiki and ATC Trades

After an afternoon of altering clothes (such as cutting long sleeves to make them short), my sewing machine is still at the center of my desk (it is usually stored on the far end).

And at the back, you can see a "furoshiki," a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, that I received from some recent visitors from Japan...

It is a square piece of cloth which can be used in many ways, from wrapping gifts to carrying groceries, the eco-friendly way.  Each year billions of plastic bags end up as garbage and so I always carry a reusable bag with me.  I haven't tried using the furoshiki but they say it can wrap almost anything regardless of its shape or size...

Then, there are also some wonderful ATCs that I received in the mail from trades I made in ATCs for All...

There are two collages and a textile one which makes me think about trying to make a textile one while my sewing machine is out.  But then, I also have those three backgrounds (underneath) that are waiting to be painted on.  Oh well, there are always so many projects I want to do and just not enough time.

And if you want to take a peek at what going on in other desks or if you want to show us What's on YOUR Workdesk this Wednesday, hop on over to Julia's Stamping Ground.

wow, that is a lovely cloth. you can turn it into a bag with your sewing magic but then the purpose of the cloth will be forfeited. loved the ATC's you got. I haven't traded in AFA for a few months now. I guess I should visit the site again.

I love the fabric. I always love the way they carry babies using fabric like that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who would like a few more hours in the day.

Interesting reading about the "furoshiki" and the guide on how to wrap all. Had never heard of these and will admit I am not good at traveling with the "green" bag:)
Definitely think you should go for the fabric ATC's while that super sewer is out!
Happy WOYWWing Peggy!

Very creative desk! Beautiful cloth! I hadn't heard of one before but do remember seeing a woman unwrap one from her waist and bundle some stuff up in it! I thought she was being innovative. Nice ATC's Thanks for sharing! Vickie #88

The furoshiki is beautiful! I love the pattern and the colours! Hmmmm, maybe it could be the inspiration for a background on a card or journal page! And how innovative all the uses are!

I love your Furoshiki, I see a few of them here at work as it's a Japanese company. I also read the post below it Peggy and I have to say it was very humbling. I think you and your sister, and I suspect your whole family, are amazing and inspiring people.

Lovely ATC's you have there and I have seen the cloths used for wrapping gifts, such a brill idea if you plan it right and gift it to a needle type person as they get to use it too! Annette

your workdesk looks like a bright and cozy spot... and i found it fascinating that a piece of cloth can be folded for so many different uses (but i probably would fail at folding it - i'm a complete failure at origami...)

thanks for coming by my blog and leading me back to your warm and lovely place!)
