WOYWW: Altered Book in Progress

Happy Wednesday, dear blog friends!  Today, my desk has my assignment for Elizabeth's popular Altered Book class.  I have reinforced the inside cover and end page with some maps (from an airline magazine), scrapbook paper and a layer of wall putty (cheap gesso alternative).   Elizabeth was concerned about computers and gesso in the same table and I am one of those who has just one space for everything.  Don't worry, Elizabeth, the laptop is closed and covered when I am messing around with the wall putty or gesso!

My theme is "Journey" and I am going to make pages about different countries (since I like to get travel brochures and maps whenever I travel).   I have started to put papers, stamps and other materials in a box for this project.

Peeking out from one of the cups is a plastic spoon I was planning to make into a kid's project (I couldn't throw away the nice pink spoons which came with the yoghurt we had).

And, some bits and pieces - correction tape which I read could be used as a base to write on in journal pages, a miniature Hebrew bible which was a gift from Jerusalem and an old box of miniature perfume bottles (I am wondering what I can do with them).

That's it for this week's What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday!  Thank you so much for all your visits and comments!  I appreciate each and every one of them.

Among my previous posts - Lenten Reflections in my Prayer Journal and 2011's Lenten atc set, a Digital scrapbooking promo, and Valentine's day in Guangzhou, China.

  23. Your book is coming together nicely. I like how you reinforced the cover pages. And of course, a plastic spoon is the perfect thing to turn into a lovely princess. Gorgeous art.

As for the perfume bottles? My art friend Kathy tells me altered bottles are all the rage now and she has pinned many on Pinterest. Not sure if you use it. I haven't tried it yet, but I hear good things about it.

Again, thanks for the AB update.

  27. Am very late getting round the desks this week - so many to see and so much to do as like you I'm working on my AB but I've not got as far on it as you have. I love the theme and I have an envelope of postage stamps in my ephemera box as well, they come in so useful. The spoon is fabulous, she looks very beautiful and serene.

  34. I am fascinated with all these altered books on everyone's blogs. I am not getting into this one, I can't cope with any new crafts at the moment. I am trying to get rid of books not gather them, no matter how beautiful. Have fun with yours, though. Have a good week. xx Maggie #8

  37. it's amazing that a lot of artist have relatively large desk, but always end up in a miniscule amount of space for creating... Your travel journal sounds like a wonderful project. Good tip about the correction tape as a base layer for journaling.
Have a great day and thanks for the peeks.

  38. Hi there, this is my first week visiting WOYWW so thank you for letting me take a peek. I enjoyed visiting. I'm trying to visit everyone before next Wednesday which is proving to be quite a task.
Phewph...there's a lot of talent out there.

I've also only just found my art mojo after 12 years (no idea where it went but thankfully it's found me again)

Sorry must dash to get through to everyone :D
