My "Filipina in Terno" series is almost done! I've had so much fun "designing their dresses" and I think I got carried away with some of them. But then, I remembered a lesson I had about traditional Filipino art, which is often characterized by "horror vacui," meaning "filling the entire surface of a space or an artwork with detail."
Just take a look at the Filipino Jeepney (public transportation in the Philippines). Some of them are so full of details...

Perfect! My ATCs are so Filipino then! I am planning to trade them with my followers and blog friends and I will also trade some at ATCs for All. Let me know if you are interested to trade for them and I will see if I have enough (otherwise, I will use the random number generator to pick who I will trade with).
And look at the lovely ATC I got from Helen! It was made specially for the WOYWW anniversary swap. Thank you so much, Helen!
And because I am a proud mommy, let me invite you to drop by my daughter's "store." Here is one of her designs...
Pretty, isn't it?

ReplyDeleteI love that bus! So colorful and cheerful. I love the look of what I've called 'cluttered art' but now I see it has an official name 'horror vacui.' I think the Mexicans have a similar theory when it comes to art. I love your Filipino ladies, with all the details. I'll bet they were so much fun to make. I would love to swap ATCs with you if you have spares. Judy #135

ReplyDeleteHi Peggy,
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the bus! I bought a very colorful sticker for my brand new car and am debating about putting it on!
Your ATCs are beautiful. If you do have extra, put my name in the hat for a swap. Since Mr. Mojo was gone I went on a shop-about yesterday and actually bought a few things that I wouldn't normally. We'll see what happens.
Your daughters art is great! I love that card.
Thank you for visiting me already!
Hugs,

Peggy, your art work is so stunning - just been looking at your latest album page with the beautiful passage from Luke 2 and how you interpreted it... just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely love to swap ATCs with you - I would soooo treasure an original art work by our own Peggy!! I am swapping with several from WOYWW and they have already sent theirs but I am sooo behind what with being so poorly recently, but thank the Lord, I am feeling much better today and trying to get on top of things again. My first task is to deal with my massive backlog of blog comments!
Love the Filipino jeepny!! Definitely a "horror vacui" there lol! Do you know the work of the knitter and stitcher Kaffe Fassett? He always fills every space with pattern too - simply gorgeous.
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. My batteries are definitely more charged again now after taking time out to rest.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi #15

ReplyDeleteBeautiful ATCS you made and received! Your daughter's work is stunning. The spinster/sheep connection goes back to the time when spinning was an occupation (fiber into yarn. Many spinsters today call themselves spinners, but I'm old-fashioned lol.
