What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday: Saints

Yesterday was All Saint's Day, a national holiday in the Philippines (see my previous post about it).  We had a four day weekend (yay!) and  to celebrate, I made some Artist Trading Cards of Saints, a Madonna and Child, St. Monica and St. Therese of Lisieux.

St. Monica is the mother of St. Augustine, and I painted her praying since she is well known for praying for Augustine when he was still wayward and as he says himself, lazy.

St. Therese is called  "the little flower of Jesus" and she believed that it was not necessary to accomplish heroic acts, or "great deeds", in order to be holy and to express her love for God. She wrote,
"Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love."

One of my favorite quotations was found in a card in her prayer book, "Let nothing disturb you; Let nothing frighten you. All things are passing. God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Nothing is wanting to him who possesses God. God alone suffices."

Now St. Monica is my kind of woman. I'm praying for my prodigal, also, and hoping he has a conversion like Augustine! Thanks for dropping by! Have a great day.

What great Saints to pick for your ATCs! I remember getting All Saints day off from Catholic School as a little girl. I wish we had it off now, as my kids need to recover from Halloween Trick or Treating! Thanks for sharing your WOYWW! -Amanda

Lovely lovely studies on the ATCs, women have been so strong and influential! What's in the pot and what's that wrapped in plastic - is it putty?

You have an amazing worktable! I like the idea of your "turntable" for all your pens ... makes them so easy to get at! Debbie #77

Lovely artwork as usual, Peggy! Thank you for the thoughts about love. As someone whose lifestyle is pretty seriously restricted by illness, it's sometimes hard to remember that we can share love and do good by very small actions - just because we can't do the big things shouldn't make us feel guilty we're not doing enough! This is a timely word for me at the moment - thanks for sharing it!! Happy WOYWW, Shoshi #67
