What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday: Order, etc.

Happy WOYWW!

The word for the week in the 52 Weeks 52 Words Challenge was ORDER and so I spent the weekend putting my craft space in order! Yesterday, all that was on my desk was an empty space except for a few ATCs and colored pencils. Am I joining the neat team?!

Well, what's that box that you see today?  Yesterday, I read Elizabeth's tutorial on how to pick a book to alter (previously, I thought the only factor to consider was cost - it should be cheap!).  So, I took down the box labeled "Books to alter" and checked on the books inside.

Yay!  They all have sewn signatures! I am one step closer to starting an altered book.  Now if only I knew what the next step is.  Any links you can point me to?

On the top left shelf, you can see a little Nativity I made.

I used a "Yakult" bottle as a base for each figure.  A little old lady sells this probiotic drink to us every week and the pile of plastic bottles was getting too high.  I had to think of a way to recycle them.  This is what I came up with.  Maybe we can sell this as a kit in our shop.

Then, my sketch for the Stretching to Sketch Challenge this week is a mermaid.

And, there's still time to join my giveaway!  If you would like a chance to win, just leave me a comment on the original giveaway post (not the WOYWW post).

And, in case you haven't heard, WOYWW is a link party organized by Julia for those of us who like to take a peek at workdesks from all over the world.

Hi Peggy-
Love seeing your desk and I just got inspired to add a lazy susan to mine. What a great idea. I have a big one set aside, but a smaller one on the desk is so smart.

Just love that nativity scene - I once did a challenge something similar and got the most fab Charlie Chaplin from one person and a monk in his habit from another. Great fun!
Your mermaid drawing is fabulous - I just enjoy so much visiting you - think I will have to sign up as a follower now.

Well done Peggy - a clean space is a freed mind...hmm. See, that may be so but I prefer not to think about it! Your box of books to alter - now that is planning on a scale! I'm sure you can find links and tutorials from Elizabeth's blog; it is a mine of information! Brilliant work on the nativity - how yakult bottles spoke to you of figures is wayyyyyyy outside my understanding!

Don't put off making an altered book: just go for it. The worst thing that can happen is you don't like it at the end, but that's highly unlikely! I love your desk. I'm very envious of the order. I keep telling myself I should try it, but it never really works out! Thank you for the inspiration.

I love your little nativity figures - they remind me of teaching infants when we covered all sorts of things to make little figures... washing up liquid bottles, yoghurt pots, loo roll tubes etc. The children loved it!

Okay, I'm borrowing your lazy susan idea. I have one that's been sitting in a drawer unused for a long time, and now I can put it to good use. Fabulous idea! Your desk looks great all cleaned up. Now it's time to mess it up again. : ) Love the nativity, another great idea. And as always your work is awesome.

Well thank you very much for reading my post on how to pick a book. Be sure to bend it back and forth in the middle and at about 1/4 and 3/4 of the way. That will assure the cover isn't going to fall off and the spine isn't too old.

I love the nativity figures. They are very adorable, but I swear they need your lovely touch to make them work. You would definitely have to provide the faces and bodies before I could make them.

Sorry I'm late getting here, but I'm taking it slow and sure this week (#15). If you want some tips on how to start a book, send me an e-mail (click on my profile to find it). I won't check my e-mail for a day or so, but will get your some info when I get around to reading it. Just can't sit that long!
